Corrections
When we find or are told about an error in a published figure, label, source, or factual statement in the Data Hub or America 250, we correct it and record it here: the date, what it said before, what it says now, why, and the evidence. We do not change published figures silently, and entries are not removed.
- 2026-10-18: Primary source named on the population methodology page. Before: Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics, Census 2022 Now: World Bank Open Data (SP.POP.TOTL); the census is listed as an additional source. The page's vintage, claim attribution and coverage (2014–2023, was 2000-2024) now describe the World Bank series Why: The series is the World Bank annual estimate, not the census count. The hub card was corrected in September 2026; the methodology page still named the census as the source and vintage.
- 2026-10-18: Primary source named on the education methodology page. Before: World Bank WDI Now: IIE Open Doors. The page's coverage (2014/15–2024/25, was 2000–2025), vintage, indicator and additional sources now describe the series and widgets the pillar actually shows Why: The pillar's headline series, Bangladeshi students in the US, comes from IIE Open Doors, as the hub card already said.
- 2026-10-18: Primary source named on the tariffs methodology page. Before: WTO Tariff Download Facility Now: USTR Section 301 Forced Labor Final Action; WTO and UNCTAD are listed as additional sources. Coverage now reads as current rates plus scenarios (was 2015–2026, which no series covered) Why: The tariff series cites the USTR action. The hub card was corrected in September 2026; the methodology page still named WTO.
- 2026-10-18: Source named on the trade breakdown card. Before: US Census Bureau, Foreign Trade Division Now: UN Comtrade / US Census Bureau Foreign Trade Division Why: The card disagreed with the pillar's data and methodology page, which cite UN Comtrade first.
- 2026-10-18: Source named on the aid card. Before: USAID Foreign Aid Explorer Now: OECD DAC / ForeignAssistance.gov, linking OECD Data Explorer, where the DAC CRS now lives (OECD.Stat was retired in July 2024; the CRS covers every donor row); ForeignAssistance.gov is listed for the US rows. Coverage corrected to 2019–2023 (was 2000–2023) Why: USAID closed on July 1, 2025, and the card disagreed with the pillar's data, which cite OECD DAC and ForeignAssistance.gov.
- 2026-10-18: Economy size in the About Bangladesh overview. Before: a $450B+ economy Now: a $437B economy (2023, World Bank) Why: The overview quoted a figure the GDP pillar has not ingested. It now matches the pillar's latest year, 2023 ($437.4B).
- 2026-10-18: Population in the About Bangladesh overview. Before: ~170M Now: ~173M (2023) Why: The overview disagreed with the population pillar, which shows 172.9M for 2023. That value is from an earlier World Bank vintage; a Known Gap on the population pillar flags the pending refresh.
- 2026-10-18: Verification status of the US-corridor remittance figure. Before: Remittance Flows and US-Bangladesh Corridor shown as Source-Verified, including $4.35B via the US corridor (2024) Now: Both pillars shown as Partially Verified; the $4.35B figure is marked unconfirmed Why: The figure is credited to IOM, and the linked World Bank page publishes remittance prices, not volumes. It stays visible with its caveat until it is checked against Bangladesh Bank's country-wise inflow table.
- 2026-10-18: Verification status of the US-Bangladesh Corridor pillar. Before: Shown as Source-Verified, including $4.35B via the US corridor (2024) Now: Shown as Partially Verified; the $4.35B figure is marked unconfirmed Why: The pillar repeats the US-corridor remittance figure from the remittance pillar, where it is not yet confirmed against Bangladesh Bank's country-wise inflow table. The same change is logged on the remittance pillar.
- 2026-10-18: Baseline GDP growth in the shock scenarios. Before: Baseline GDP Growth 5.7%, IMF FY2025 estimate Now: Baseline GDP Growth (forecast) 5.7%, pre-shock IMF forecast; FY2025 actual 3.49% (BBS) Why: The 5.7% is the pre-shock forecast used as the scenario input. Shown alone it read as an outcome; the final FY2025 figure is now beside it.
- 2026-10-18: Basis of the headline inflation figure. Before: CPI Inflation ~9.8%, 2024 avg. Now: CPI Inflation ~9.8%, FY2024 Why: The 2024 value is the fiscal-year figure; "2024 avg." read as the calendar-year average, which runs higher. A new Known Gap discloses that the series mixes calendar-year, fiscal-year, partial-year and single-month readings.
- 2026-10-18: Bangladeshi students in the US, 2024/25. Before: 17,166 students, +0.4% year on year Now: 20,156 students, +17.9% year on year Why: 17,166 excluded students on Optional Practical Training, while the prior year (17,099) included them, so a 17.9% rise appeared flat. Every year in the series now uses the IIE total.
- 2026-10-18: Growth in Bangladeshi students in the US, 2014/15 to 2024/25. Before: +208% Now: +262% Why: Recomputed from the series after the 2024/25 correction.
- 2026-10-18: Total remittances, FY2022 and FY2023. Before: $21.3B (FY2022) and $21.9B (FY2023) Now: $21.03B (FY2022) and $21.61B (FY2023) Why: The earlier values did not match Bangladesh Bank's fiscal-year totals.
- 2026-10-18: Growth in remittances, FY2026. Before: +17.4% year on year Now: +17.3% year on year, marked provisional Why: Growth had been computed on a rounded FY2025 base ($30.3B). Bangladesh Bank's base of $30.32B gives +17.3%, and Bangladesh Bank describes the FY2026 total as provisional.
- 2026-10-18: Verification badges on headline figures. Before: "[Source-Verified]" was shown on every overview figure, US corridor figure, and About Bangladesh figure, and the overview said all pillars were source-verified. Now: Each badge now reflects its pillar's recorded status: Source-Verified, Partially Verified, or Unverified. Gross reserves shows Unverified. The overview reports how many pillars are fully verified. Why: The badges were fixed text, so they did not change with a pillar's status and appeared on figures from partially verified pillars and on one unverified figure.
- 2026-10-18: Verification tag in JSON downloads. Before: JSON downloads of partially verified pillars were tagged [Source-Verified] and named "source-verified". Now: The tag and file name follow the pillar's recorded status. Why: The tag was set from a single yes/no flag that partially verified pillars also carried.
- 2026-10-18: Headline figures showing as zero. Before: Overview and America 250 figures could display as 0 or $0.0B until the reader scrolled. Now: Figures display their actual values immediately. Why: A counting animation started at zero and only reached the real value when the figure scrolled into view.
- 2026-10-18: Known gaps that called published releases "pending". Before: Gaps for GDP, the trade deep dive, remittance flows, food security, and the geopolitical-shock pillar described data releases as pending after they had been published. Now: Each gap now says what was published and that this hub has not yet incorporated it, or, for remittance flows, that the FY2026 figure is provisional. No figures changed. Why: The expected release dates had passed.
- 2026-10-18: USAID's Bangladesh programs, 2025. Before: "halting more than 100 projects worth roughly $550 million"; "The agency was formally dissolved on July 1, 2025." Now: "halting dozens of projects"; "The agency officially shut down on July 1, 2025, and merged its remaining operations into the State Department." Why: Published estimates of the halted portfolio range from about $200 million to $700 million depending on what is counted, so no single figure is given. "Formally dissolved" went beyond the cited source.
- 2026-10-18: First American ships to Bengal, 1785-87. Before: "opening a direct US-Bengal trade era carried by Salem and Boston merchants" Now: Names the United States (Bay of Bengal, 1785) and the Chesapeake (Calcutta, 1787), both exploratory voyages, with regular trade from 1788. Why: The cited source did not support the Salem and Boston attribution. The source now points to Banglapedia's article on the voyages.
- 2026-10-18: Concert for Bangladesh, 1971. Before: "set the template for every one that followed" Now: "an early large-scale benefit concert, widely credited as a model for later ones such as Live Aid in 1985" Why: The original claim was broader than the evidence supports.
- 2026-10-18: Size and location of the Bangladeshi American community. Before: "More than 300,000 ... according to Pew Research Center, with roughly 42% ... in the New York metro area" Now: "About 300,000" attributed to Pew Research Center; the 42% New York share attributed to George Mason University's Institute for Immigration Research. Why: The 42% figure comes from GMU, not Pew, and Pew reports "about" 300,000.
- 2026-10-18: America's 250th anniversary entry. Before: Written in the future tense and labeled Projected. Now: Past tense and labeled Verified. Why: The anniversary took place on July 4, 2026.
- 2026-10-18: GDP series for 2016–2020 and headline figures. Before: 2016–2020: $221.4B, $249.7B, $274.0B, $302.6B, $324.2B; 2022: $460.2B; series ended 2023. Headlines: 2023 GDP $437.4B (−5.0%), peak $460.2B, 10-year growth 153% (2014–2023) Now: 2016–2020: $265.2B, $293.7B, $321.4B, $351.2B, $374.0B; 2022: $460.1B; adds 2024 ($450.1B) and 2025 ($456.3B). Headlines: 2025 GDP $456.3B (+1.4%), peak $460.1B (2022), growth since 2016 72% (2016–2025) Why: The 2016–2020 values were from the World Bank's July 2021 release, while 2021 onward came from a later one. The mix drew a 28% jump from 2020 to 2021; the current series shows 11%. Growth is now measured from 2016 because the World Bank series itself rises 36% from 2015 to 2016 (see Known Gaps).
- 2026-10-18: Sector shares of GDP, 2014–2023, and headline figures. Before: Industry 27.6% (2014) to 33.8% (2023); services 52.5% to 50.8%; agriculture 15.3% to 11.0%; series ended 2023. Headlines: services 50.8%, industry 33.8%, agriculture 11.0% "Declining" Now: Industry 26.3% (2014) to 34.6% (2023); services 53.6% to 51.1%; agriculture 15.4% to 11.0%; adds 2024 and 2025. Headlines (2025): services 52.1%, industry 34.0%, agriculture 11.4% (15.4% in 2014) Why: Most rows did not match the World Bank release current at the time or since. Agriculture's share rose slightly in 2024 and 2025, so "Declining" was replaced with the 2014 comparison.
- 2026-10-18: Remittance inflows and headline figures. Before: 2023 total $21.6B; series ended 2023 (several years differed by $0.1B to $0.5B). Headlines: 2023 total $21.6B, ~5% of GDP, 10-year growth 42% (2014–2023) Now: 2023 total $22.1B; adds 2024 ($27.5B) and 2025 ($33.9B). Headlines: 2025 total $33.9B (+23%), 7.4% of GDP (2025), 10-year growth 121% (2015–2025) Why: Refreshed from the World Bank's October 2026 release. "~5% of GDP" was not computed from the hub's own figures; 7.4% is $33.9B divided by the GDP pillar's 2025 value of $456.3B.
- 2026-10-18: Population and urban share, and headline figures. Before: Population 172.9M (2023); urban share 34.3% (2014) to 40.5% (2023), rising 0.7 points every year; series ended 2023. Headlines: 173M (2023), urban 40.5%, density 1,328/km² Now: Population 171.5M (2023); urban share 29.2% (2014) to 32.2% (2023); adds 2024 and 2025. Headlines (2025): 176M, urban 33.2%, density 1,350/km² Why: The population rows followed an earlier World Bank release. The urban-share rows matched no World Bank release before 2023. The World Bank's December 2025 release cut the urban share by about 8 points for every year (2023: 40.5% to 32.2%); the hub now follows the current release and records the revision in Known Gaps.
- 2026-10-18: Economy size and population in the About Bangladesh overview. Before: a $437B economy (2023, World Bank); ~173M citizens (2023) Now: a $456B economy (2025, World Bank); ~176M citizens (2025) Why: Follows the refreshed GDP and population pillars.
